Areas of activity

The main activities of the Estonian University of Life Sciences Library are divided into two areas:
collection building and developing services.

Collection development

The area is managed by the Director of Collection Development, whose responsibilities include acquisition, cataloging, and subject indexing. The main tasks of the area are:

  •     library collection preserving, arranging, and making findable 
  •     according to the areas must be ensured the necessary materials for teaching and research
  •     content description by classification, subject indexing, and cataloging in the online catalogue ESTER
  •     physical processing
  •     acceptance and registration of books and magazines donated to the library
  •     cataloging the materials belonging to structural units of the Estonian University of Life Sciences in the online catalogue ESTER

Principles of acquisition

 

Development of services

The area is managed by the Director of Library Development whose areas of responsibility are e-resources, information services, training, reader services, and public relations. The main tasks of the area are:

  • servicing readers and managing readers database
  • instructing readers to search for information and using an online catalogue
  • conducting information literacy e-courses and courses about database searching
  • presenting of the library and training for readers
  • items inserting, correcting, and updating in the online catalogue
  • printing, scanning, and copying
  • arranging bookings for a group and individual workrooms
  • exhibiting new publications
  • answering queries by phone and e-mail
  • managing website and digital archive
  • managing art exhibitions
