The grand opening of the exhibition will take place at the library on Friday, January 19th, at 16:00.

You're welcome!

In her spring 2023 solo exhibition, "In the Beginning, There Was Grass...," the sky was a pure, vibrant blue, and the grass exuded passion in its brilliant hues. Following summer came wear and decay, making room for the new, emerging with persistent insistence from the very same seed. The title of the current exhibition, "...before there was a seed," stems from the sensation that something existed before and something similar is bound to come again. A seed cannot remain in peace; it yearns to rise. Wisdom seeks expression.

The print awaiting the viewer on the wall is akin to a seed eager to set forth on its journey. Nature scenes in the printings are encased in unnatural forms, preserved in jars, compressed onto a two-dimensional plane - a peculiar, confined space seeking an exit. The book overflows with seeds containing an indescribable force. Someone packaged wisdom into words, pressed it into sentences, wrote it in books that are mostly closed until the pages yellow. The same feeling is captured in the print if unnoticed and unobserved. Both crave fresh air, a stroll, conversation, contemplation, and meeting. The print, too, captures the gaze - a gaze in search of a seed.

Liis Tedre's toned cyanotype and intaglio techniques characterize monotypes with a playful, joyful color palette when viewed from a distance, along with seriality and, upon closer inspection, realistic motifs added to the substrates through photo-transfer.

Liis Tedre, born in 1976, obtained her bachelor's degree in printmaking from the Estonian Academy of Arts in 2022 and is a member of the Estonian Free Printmakers Association.
In her artistic endeavors, Tedre narrates playful stories through everyday objects. She is intrigued by the universal and timeless principles governing the world, drawing parallels and contradictions between the workings of nature and the human realm. Currently, she encapsulates natural landscapes in unconventional forms within her graphic prints.
She participated in the Wiiralt Prize competition group exhibition in the fall of 2022, the "Muhuversum" international group exhibition in January 2023, and held a solo exhibition titled "In the Beginning, There Was Grass..." in the spring of 2023. In October-November 2023, she took part in a joint exhibition of printmakers and sculptors at Pärnu UKM, titled "Leaflets and Monuments."

The exhibition will be open until March 20, 2024, from Monday to Friday, 9:00-19:00, and Saturdays, 10:00-14:00.
