The Library of the University of Life Sciences is pleased to join the University of Tartu Library’s call to participate in a survey mapping citizen science projects in Estonia. The results will be used to create a unified information hub for citizen science initiatives.
According to Lilian Neerut, Head of the Subject Information Department at the University of Tartu Library, information about citizen science projects is currently highly fragmented. “We want to gain an overview of as many initiatives as possible, which is why we created this survey,” she explained. “We would be very grateful if everyone involved in coordinating or participating in citizen science projects could take a moment to respond. Our goal is to collect information for a website where researchers can present their projects and volunteers can discover opportunities to contribute.”
Citizen science means that people can take part in scientific research as volunteers. They can help in many ways, by collecting data, analysing it, or helping to draw conclusions. This includes things like hobby science, public involvement, working together with scientists, and crowdsourcing.
Based on the survey responses, a database of citizen science projects will be compiled and added to the Estonian Open Science portallink opens in new page, as well as preserved in the University of Tartu research data repository, DataDOI. Permission will be requested from project coordinators before any information is published or stored.
The survey takes approximately 2 minutes to complete and does not collect any personal data.
