When formatting theses and other student papers, it is important to correctly cite the works of other authors that have been used in the preparation of the paper. Several systems have been developed to detect plagiarism; at the Estonian University of Life Sciences, the plagiarism detection system StrikePlagiarismlink opens in new page is used.
- StrikePlagiarism is a plagiarism detection system acquired by the Ministry of Education and Research and licensed to the Estonian University of Life Sciences through a consortium agreement. The purpose of the program is to prevent plagiarism and raise awareness about academic dishonesty.
- The plagiarism detection system can be used both in the StrikePlagiarism web platform and in Moodle.
- The plagiarism detection program can be used by all academic staff at the Estonian University of Life Sciences. Students cannot use the program independently. To access the system, log in using your university account HERElink opens in new page. No account is required to use StrikePlagiarism in Moodle.
- StrikePlagiarism allows you to:
- Compare texts with publicly available Estonian and foreign-language materials on the internet;
- Compare texts with materials stored in the StrikePlagiarism database. Uploaded works can be manually added to the comparison database, or they will be added automatically 30 days after uploading. If you wish to delete documents that you or other EMÜ members have added to the database, please contact [email protected]. For removing works uploaded to Moodle from the database, please contact [email protected];
- Compare texts with materials in the Ouriginal plagiarism detection system database;
- Compare works digitally archived by universities (including EMU DSpace);
- Use the Moodle environment to compare works with the StrikePlagiarism database;
- Translate a document into a selected language (e.g., English) and check for similarities in that language (to do so, upload the document, activate the option Check for similarities in translation, and select the language);
- Analyse and interpret the results of the similarity report.
